CUTTING CHEMCAST® GP ACRYLIC SHEET Chemcast® GP brand acrylic plastic sheet may be cut by sawing with power saws or by
scribing and breaking. Scribing is limited to straight cuts in thin sheets of Chemcast®
GP, 1/4" or less, but is more economical for cutting small quantities of sheet
material. Sawing may be used for straight and curved cuts on any thickness of material. Chemcast® GP G sheets are supplied in unshrunk condition. If blanks will be heated to
forming temperatures, allowance must be made for approximately 2% shrinkage after heating
and cooling unrestrained to room temperature. If the Chemcast® GP will not be heated, the
shrinkage allowance is unnecessary. Chemcast® GP acrylic plastic is a combustible thermoplastic material. Observe fire
precautions appropriate for comparable forms of wood and paper products. SAWING CHEMCAST® GP The kind of cutting to be done on Chemcast® GP should determine the type of sawing
equipment that will be used. Circular saws are used for straight cuts; scroll and sabre
saws for cutting small radii curves in thin Chemcast® GP; band saws for cutting larger
radii curves or for making straight cuts in thick Chemcast® GP. Routers and woodworking
shapers are used for trimming the edges of flat and formed parts. |
